Sedat İ. Güldoğan, who was appointed to the position of Head of the Industrialization Department of the Undersecretariat of Defense Industries (SSM), visited OSTİM to introduce himself and offer his condolences regarding the unfortunate incident that occurred in OSTİM.

Sedat İ. Güldoğan, who was appointed to the position of Head of the Industrialization Department at the Undersecretariat of Defense Industry, paid a visit to OSTİM both to offer his condolences for the unfortunate accidents that occurred in the Ostim and İvedik Organized Industrial Zones in recent weeks and to introduce himself regarding his new position.

Güldoğan, who was received by Ostim Organized Industrial Zone Board Chairman Orhan Aydın at the Ostim administrative building, first expressed his deep sorrow over the accident. Stating that such an accident should not damage such a large industrial area, Güldoğan said that those responsible must be punished, but that industrialists should not lose morale, but instead recover and continue production.

Following this, Orhan Aydın gave Güldoğan a brief presentation on Ostim, its subsidiaries, and the clustering system. The presentation provided detailed information on the areas of operation of all institutions established within Ostim to date, the formation of the clustering system, and especially the work of the Ostim Defense and Aerospace Cluster (OSSA). After the presentation, Güldoğan and his delegation visited several companies in Ostim that serve as subcontractors for the main defense industry and produce goods, and received information about their production processes from company officials. At the end of the program, Güldoğan also visited the Ostim Consulting and Training Center, where he expressed his views on the relationship between Ostim and the defense industry. Güldoğan stated that there has been a 2.5-fold growth in sales among the main players in the defense industry, but this growth has not yet been reflected in the same proportion in the downward trend. “This is how it works in all industrialization models. There is a certain growth, and this growth starts to reflect downwards with a certain margin of error. This margin of error varies depending on the sector. In one sector it is 1 year, in another 3, in another 5 years. The defense industry is one of the most difficult areas for this, because it is a challenging field that requires bringing together all elements such as technology, qualifications, certifications, and personnel training,” he said.

Güldoğan stated that SMEs, which constitute almost 99% of Turkish industry, provide significant services to the defense industry as subcontractors, adding that Ostim and OSSA, which are organized forms of SMEs, are very valuable to them in this respect. Güldoğan continued his remarks as follows:

“Instead of me going and contacting each of the 70 companies in Ostim individually, I'm contacting you, and you're gathering those 70 companies and bringing them to me. You're facilitating the exchange of ideas between us. You're acting as a very important bridge. If you can't be this organized, we can't achieve this level of in-depth collaboration. And by in-depth collaboration, we mean very clearly utilizing the sub-equipment, systems, processes, and services we currently source from abroad, both in terms of design and production, as much as possible internally. This means both increasing the number of players and expanding the volume of smaller companies. If the defense industry is to take another step forward, it will be through this in-depth collaboration. And the most important element here is you, Ostim and the OSSA cluster.”
