A solution to the high machinery investment costs of industrialists is being offered through "technology leasing".
The high dependence on foreign sources and the high costs associated with machinery and equipment investments are increasing interest in the "technology leasing" option.
Tezmaksan, a leading machinery supplier for the manufacturing industry in Türkiye and a member of the Ostim Defense and Aerospace Cluster (OSSA), operates in the sale of CNC and universal machine tools.
In addition to sales, the company recently launched a "technology leasing" program, offering the possibility to use any required equipment for 12 to 48 months without making any investment.
It is stated that this model will particularly benefit industrialists who work on a project basis, need to renew their technology at certain intervals, do not want to bear the risk of second-hand machinery and insurance, and have working capital needs.
In the "technology leasing" model, no down payment is required, lease invoices can be used as expenses, costs can be planned, and insurance and resale risks are transferred outside the company.
The model offers low maintenance costs, production technology support, performance measurement, and flexibility in technology renewal, along with features such as the supply of machines tailored to needs and standards, regular machine maintenance, and operator training.
The lease begins with machine installation, and installation and transportation costs, periodic maintenance, machine breakdown insurance, and service expenses are included in the lease price.
The same machine serves different sectors
Tezmaksan Customer Relations Coordinator Yalçın Paslı told an AA reporter that machine tools, which are procured at high costs, become uneconomical over time due to various reasons.
Paslı stated that this situation also leads to disadvantages in terms of competition, and that these factors have brought "technology leasing" and "machine leasing" practices to the forefront today.
Paslı pointed out that this model is widely used in developed countries, and said the following:
"A rented machine, after being used in the aviation sector and then returned, can easily be used in the automotive industry. When it comes from the automotive industry, it can be used by a spare parts manufacturer. This increases the machine's lifespan. In Türkiye, there are already problems with financing and technology renewal. For example, you buy a machine for 100 lira, but the cost of the functions you use is only 40-60 lira. We spent 1-1.5 years working on the infrastructure for this and implemented it. Unfortunately, the biggest problem in Turkey is that the maintenance of the acquired technology is not done on time. Very few industrialists maintain their machines. If you don't maintain the machines, breakdowns and costs increase. In the rental business, we do three things: we renew the technologies, we perform maintenance on time because the machines are ours, and instead of tying up already limited capital in the machine, we provide usage for the required period, thus easing the financial burden on businesses."
Noting that they are in the third year of the program, Paslı said, "We have rented nearly 100 machines and we continue to do so. The customers who rent measure the efficiency and rent again. In terms of rental, we provide the machine that is suitable for investment and offer the most optimal solution."
Paslı stated that technology leasing is particularly preferred by sectors where technology is rapidly changing and competition is high, such as the defense industry, aviation, and automotive.
Rent is suspended if the problem cannot be resolved
Evaluating the industrialists' approaches to the model, Paslı noted the following:
"When car rental first came to Türkiye in the late 1990s, the same problem arose. There was prejudice, uncertainty, and resistance. Over time, these were overcome, and now all companies rent vehicles. The same process happened here. Initially, businesses didn't know how to use equipment by renting, but this too was overcome over time. For example, if a problem occurs with a machine and we can't solve it immediately, we stop the rental. Companies now confidently resort to meeting their needs through rental."
