The agreement was signed by the Undersecretary of Defence Industry, Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir, and AIRBUS Board Member Thierry Baril. Both parties agreed to expand industrial partnerships and enhance cooperation in Turkey. Under the agreement, AIRBUS will continue to develop its procurement from Turkey and will purchase $5 billion worth of goods from Turkish suppliers between 2020 and 2030.
This agreement reportedly allows for various purchases and investments not only in the field of civil aviation, but also in fighter jets, transportation, helicopters, and even spacecraft.
At the meeting, which was also attended by Uğur Aydın, Project Manager on behalf of OSSA, AIRBUS Board Member Thierry Baril stated that they were very pleased with the increasing capabilities and production power of the Turkish aviation industry and SMEs, and that this agreement would enable the procurement of more and more complex parts from Türkiye, further strengthening the Turkish aviation industry and SMEs.
Undersecretary of Defence Industry Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir, speaking on the subject, emphasized the need to trust the Turkish aviation sector, stating, “We have set ourselves a target of 5 billion dollars. This is a very difficult target to reach. But I am sure that when the time comes, even this 5 billion dollars will be exceeded, and Airbus will gladly invest more in Turkish industry for production, engineering, and services. This is our commitment to AIRBUS.”
At OSSA, we embrace the principle that a strong main industry is built upon strong sub-industries, and we believe that our members, with their developing capabilities and potential, will forge numerous collaborations with AIRBUS.
