Environmental Control Unit -ECU
The Environmental Control Unit is a system developed by ANOVA to meet the cooling and heating requirements of a laser targeting pod externally integrated with military aircraft. The system is designed to maintain the Laser Targeting Pod within the required environmental conditions both on the ground and under various flight conditions.
For this purpose, the unit is designed to provide heating and cooling under different thermal loads. Electrical heaters are used to provide the required heating capacity, while a refrigerant-based cooling cycle is utilized to achieve the required cooling capacity. Thermal energy is transferred to the system through conditioned air.
After entering the Environmental Control Unit, the air is conditioned according to the specified requirements and then supplied to the Laser Targeting Pod. A continuously operating high-flow-rate fan is used to maintain the required airflow.
The airflow required for cooling the Environmental Control Unit is provided by fans during ground operation and through an air intake during flight.
The system is designed at LRU (Line Replaceable Unit) level, allowing easy replacement in the event of a failure by disconnecting its mechanical and electrical interfaces.
